ABOUT
SourWoodOur farm story begins in 2013. Leaving hot, humid Florida for the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, we thought we were going to grow vegetables on our future farm. After 2 years of apartment living, we found a beautiful property we could build our farm from scratch. Boy were we ambitious!
While driving past our neighbors' house, I spotted what I thought were miniature sheep. I was instantly hooked. After research I discovered what I saw were actually Shetland Sheep, one of the smallest breeds of sheep. I found a vet who was selling her herd and fast forward 5 years here we are! Spending each day with these amazing animals is truly life changing. Each has their own personalities. This year, in addition to our register herd of Shetlands we welcomed a small group of Leicester Longwool Sheep, a worldwide endangered variety of English Sheep with amazing long curly wool. We also welcomed a small herd of registered Satin Angora rabbits to be able to blend with both varieties of wool. Thank you for taking time to read about our little farm. We strive to produce the highest quality of wool products for you, the fiber artist, to enjoy working with. |
