Happy September everybody!!!!
Wow, it has been the hottest, rainiest summer I believe we've had since we moved to WNC. So you know what that means.... WORMS!! BOO!!!! We have had to be so diligent about keeping an eye on everyone this summer. When you have hot, wet days, it's a perfect environment for worms to mass reproduce. We will be much happier with some cooler weather not only for the sheep, but also so we can start skirting our fleeces.
Upcoming Event: Mountain State Fair (Sept 17-18)
Mountain State fair is just around the corner. Scott and I have been asked to be the Ring Masters this year. We are so honored to be a part of the sheep show. We will be in the Sales Barn Saturday and Sunday (9/17 and 9/18). The kids' show is Saturday and the open show, which we will be in, is all day Sunday so come out and say hello and cheer on your favorite SourWood sheep!
In addition to skirting fleeces, September is also a great time to start weeding all the summer growth and to get a jump start on putting grass seed down for next year's pastures.
Our bees look AMAZING!!!!! We have started feeding them weekly now as we finished round one of mite treatments. The feeding keeps the queens actively laying so we go into winter with large clusters to help keep warm. We will do one more mite treatment in the late fall before we close them up for winter.
A huge thank you to everyone who purchased honey from us so far! Our first round was tasty and hoping for a bit more Sourwood honey soon.
If all goes well and the ladies make it through winter, we will have bees for sale in the Spring. We will keep you posted on purchase opportunities! Email us for your honey or bee purchase inquiries.
So far we have raised $600 for Ukraine with our yarn we had made for them! We are about half way to our goal so there is still time to get yours! Thank you to those who got theirs already!
